Cybersecurity basics for growing companies
Security does not need to start with complex tools. It starts with clear ownership, strong access control, reliable backups, and practical review habits.
Protect access first
Use strong passwords, multi-factor authentication where possible, limited admin access, and clear account ownership for websites, hosting, email, cloud tools, and business platforms.
Keep systems updated
Patch websites, plugins, servers, frameworks, and third-party tools. Remove unused accounts, old extensions, and inactive integrations that increase risk.
Plan backups and monitoring
Backups should be tested, stored safely, and connected to a recovery process. Monitoring should cover uptime, suspicious activity, SSL expiry, and server health.
Make security part of delivery
For new software, include access control, data validation, secure deployment, logging, and review checkpoints from the start instead of treating security as a final task.
